PC Version Guide-Chocobo World
After catching a Chocobo in Final Fantasy VIII and receiving a Chicobo from the Chocoboy, you'll be able to play Chocobo World. Under "Save" in the Menu a new "Chocobo World" menu will appear. When Boko is in Chocobo World, it cannot be summoned with Gysahl greens nor can Mog be summoned with the MiniMog command ability in Final Fantasy VIII. When data is brought "Home" to Final Fantasy VIII world, playing Chocobo World will not save any data.

If you wish to import data from Chocobo World using Home, you must save game normally in Final Fantasy VIII to ensure that data between Chocobo World and Final Fantasy VIII are synchronized

Basic Stuff You should know

Event Types and Items

 Collect Items to import back to Final Fantasy VIII. There are rare items that can only be found in Chocobo World.
 Raise Boko to LV 100
 Find Mog
 Rescue Koko, a female Chicobo
 Defeat the Demon King
 Get Powerups for Chocobo attack in Final Fantasy VIII

SCREENS

Walking Screen
Main Game Screen - Move Boko in a direction towards a dot

Up button Walk Boko further away
Down button Walk Boko closer
Left button Walk Boko left
Right button Walk Boko right
Enter button Display Menu Screen

Each game is made up of 100 randomly generated levels. Each level always has 8 event dots. After you hit an event dot, another one randomly generates so it’s impossible to clear an entire map of Events.

Menu Screens
Confirm status and movement methods.

Up/down button Select/Toggle between displayed menu settings
Left/right button Scroll through the menus
Enter button Return to Walking Screen

 Map screen - Shows event dots on map, map level and current time
 Status screen - Displays current weapon, # of powerups, map level, HP and ID
 Item screen - Displays how many of each item you have
 Event Wait screen - Lets you set Event Wait ON or OFF
 Mog screen - Lets you set Mog to sleep or standby (after level 25)
 Move screen - Lets you set the movement rate

You can set Chocobo World to automatic play by setting ‘Event Wait’ OFF. The game progresses much slower but it's good to run in the background without your command.

Move – Boko scans the number of pixels around him and turns toward an event dot within this range. The Movement rate tells him how many pixels to look for an event dot. If there are no dots within the scan range, Boko will continue in a straight line. In this case you must manually redirect him towards a dot.

Mog – If he’s on standby, and you are killed in battle, he will jump in and make one final attack for you. If that attack kills the enemy, you will survive the battle with 1 HP and score a victory. If not, then you lose Mog and have to find him again.

 You wouldn’t want to set Move less than 6 most of the time unless Boko is damaged and you want him to heal before next battle OR encounter special events that can only occur at a certain movement rate

1. Battles (most common) - Boko fights a monster
2. Moomba (~10%) - Moomba offers you a weapon
3. Cactaur (~10%) - Cactuar gives you an item
4. Special Events - Depends on level and settings

Moomba – Weapons
When you meet Moomba he offers you a weapon and you can opt to take it or keep your existing one. Weapons are a combination of four numbers. When you fight in battle, one of the numbers is selected randomly as the attack damage. Select your weapons based on the average attack damage (Sum of the 4 attacks divided by 4). The best weapon you can get is based on your Rank.

Cactuar – Items
There are four categories of items: A, B, C and D. When you import data back into Final Fantasy VIII, each item becomes one or more actual items in Final Fantasy VIII. D are the cheapest/most common junk and A are the most rare items including items unavailable in Final Fantasy VIII.

Battles & Leveling Up
The screen changes to the Battle Screen upon encountering an enemy, and battle begins.

Left/right button - By pressing them alternately, the ATB count will reach 0 sooner.

When the numbers displayed in the bottom middle portion of the screen reach 0, an attack will be waged and both counters will reset to a random number and countdown again. Upon winning a battle, Boko will receive magic stones. If the stones line up, Boko’s level will increase. You'll advance a level in 3 to 7 victories.

Monsters:
Level 1-100: Creeps HP = Level/5 +6
Level 10-100: Red Bat HP = Level/5 +8
Level 30-100: Blobra HP = Level/5 +10
Level 70-100: Wendigo HP = Level/5 +16

The speed of the ATB gauge is constant, but pressing the left/right buttons alternately increases it. The enemy’s ATB gauge speed depends on the monster – Wendigo fastest, Creeps slowest. When either side is reduced to 0 HP, the battle ends.

Defeat
When defeated Boko will sleep until HP completely recovered. You can wake Boko up during sleep, but it’s best to wait until has recovered completely.

Occasionally Boko will stop walking and do something else:
- Listen to a Walkman
- Eat a picnic lunch
- Go Fishing
- Watch TV
- Sitting around a campfire with Moomba

Boko will also sleep automatically based on how damaged he is. If he’s at 1 HP, there’s a high chance he’ll sleep within a few moves onto the next square. While sleeping or doing any of the other activities he regains HP. If he’s on Rank 2-6, he regains 4 HP every few seconds, on Rank 1 he regains at a rate of 5 HP. A while after he has fully recovered Boko will awake and continue.

Special events
Level 20: Meet Koko, a female Chicobo

Level 25: Find Mog

Level 50, Event Wait ON: Rescue Koko (1st powerup)
If Event Wait is OFF, Boko falls into a hole. Must have Event Wait ON before hitting first event dot on level 50, otherwise miss out on the first Powerup (ChocoFlare) and die. If you miss, use ‘Do over’ to reset Chocobo World back to an old level. Do not use the ‘Home’ command if you missed, because it will update the ‘Do over’ command.

Level 75: Hurry up
“Hurry Up!” Watch the fireworks with Cactuar and Moomba

Level 100: Koko abducted
The Demon King kidnaps Koko and disappears. You must them.

Level 100 (Move set to 1): Fight the Demon King
He has 99 HP, but is pretty slow & easy to beat.

IMPORTING ITEMS INTO FINAL FANTASY VIII

POWERUPS
Powerups are indicated on the bottom of Boko’s portrait in the Final Fantasy VIII Chocobo World Menu (stars) or on the right of the Weapon screen in Chocobo World (squares). After around 20 straight battle victories after fighting the demon king, hit an event dots with ‘Event wait’ ON, Mog on standby and move set to 3, to get the 2nd and 3rd powerup. The 3rd powerup occurs around 30 straight victories after the 2nd powerup. Boko will meet Koko and receive Powerup. Each Powerup improves Boko's summon attack in Final Fantasy VIII:

0 power-ups: ChocoFire (weak Fire damage)
1 power-up: ChocoFlare (moderate Fire damage, up to ~5000)
2 power-ups: ChocoMeteor (moderate to high damage, maximum 9999)
3 power-ups: ChocoBuckle (Extremely high damage, 5 digit)

DETERMINING HP
In each game Boko can raise to Level 100. His HP is calculated in the following manner: Each rank has a different starting HP. Boko's HP = Initial HP + (Boko's current LV / 4), rounded down.

Rank: Initial HP: Maximum HP (HP at LV 100):
1 16 41
2 12 37
3 10 35
4 9 34
5 8 33
6 7 32
7 6 31

ADVANCING IN RANK/EFFECTS OF RANK
‘Rank’ in Chocobo World affects the maximum weapon obtainable and the maximum HP on LV 100. It is determined solely by the ID number. The table below shows what IDs qualify for the various ranks.

Rank Max. Max. # of ID
Number - HP - Weapon – IDs - requirement
------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 - 41 - 9999 1 - 211
2 - 37 - 9998 3 - 000,008,777
3 - 35 - 9898 8 - All digits the same
4 - 34 - 9888 9 - Ending in 00
5 - 33 - 9698 9 - Ending in 77
6 - 32 - 9698 90 - Ending in 7
7 - 31 - 9697 880 - Any other number

Chocobo World tests your ID against each criteria starting from Rank 1 and stops on the first match (so ID: 777 is rank 2, although it also qualifies for rank 3, 5 and 6). The “"# of ID”" field lists how many IDs qualify for each rank.

TROUBLESHOOTING AND EXPLOITING
If you try to import data back to Final Fantasy VIII and the 'Home' button is greyed out OR If you try to send to Chocobo World and a message “"Chocobo is already in Chocobo World”" appears, this is the result of the ‘chocorpg’ file being changed while in ‘Home’ state and makes the Chocobo World data out of sync with Final Fantasy VIII. It's also a result of not saving game when Chocobo World has changed. The state of whether Boko is in Final Fantasy VIII or the Chocobo World is saved to Final Fantasy VIII saved game file and the Chocobo World data. If they don't match, then you can't do anything Chocobo World related in either game. To solve problem:

 ALT+TAB out of the game, Go to the “Final Fantasy VIII Save” folder and copy/backup the ‘chocorpg’ file.
 Return to Final Fantasy VIII and select “Do Over” in the Chocobo World menu.
 ALT+TAB out and copy/move back your backup ‘chocorpg’ file to the Final Fantasy VIII Save folder.
 Return to Final Fantasy VIII and select “Home” from Chocobo World menu to import and synchronise data.

If you’re quick, you'll have notice that here lies an immediate exploit. Once you’ve collected sufficient types of items you can repeatedly reload the data back into Final Fantasy VIII.
 Backup the ‘chocorpg’ file.
 In Final Fantasy VIII Chocobo World menu, select “Home” command to bring back the goodies. Your items reset to 0 in Chocobo World.
 Select “World” to send Boko back to Chocobo World.
 ALT+Tab and copy the backup of ‘chocorpg’ back into Final Fantasy VIII Save folder.
 Repeat process from step 2.

Hex Edit Exploit
After collecting a few items, backup and hex edit the ‘chocorpg’ file in the Final Fantasy VIIISave Folder at Hex address 1C. The four digits should match the stock quantity of each item. Alter each to desired amount (FF is the maximum). Save and run Chocobo world to check items stock. Now you can import your full load of a maximum 129 different types of items into Final Fantasy VIII. To repeat the process, use “World” then replace the “hocorpg” file with the edited backup file. If you try to re-edit the current modified file it will result in erratic behaviour in gameplay/displays or crash the game.
